1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to Library B and its projects, including bigprompts.org and globefin.org. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use BigPrompts ("the Service"). We are committed to handling your data responsibly and transparently.

By using the Service, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect payment information (the Service is free), government-issued IDs, precise geolocation, or any biometric data.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Operate and maintain the Service, including account authentication, content display, and AI-powered features.
  • Generate study tools (flashcards, quizzes, PDFs, podcasts, presentations) from published content.
  • Send AI chat messages to third-party models and return responses to you.
  • Detect and prevent abuse, spam, and security threats.
  • Understand how the Service is used so we can improve it.
  • Communicate with you about your account or material changes to the Service (we do not send marketing emails).

4. AI Processing & Third-Party Models

This section is important because the Service relies on AI:

  • What is sent to AI providers. When a Guide clicks "Generate" or a Student sends a follow-up chat message, the prompt text, topic name, and relevant context (such as the published answer for chat) are sent to a third-party AI model provider (currently via OpenRouter) to produce a response.
  • What is not sent. Your email address, password, IP address, and other personal account details are never sent to AI model providers.
  • Third-party data practices. AI model providers may process data according to their own terms and privacy policies. We select providers that offer data processing agreements appropriate for educational use, but we encourage you to review their policies independently.
  • No training on your data. We do not use your content to train our own AI models. We select AI providers who do not train on API inputs. However, we cannot guarantee the internal practices of third-party providers in perpetuity.

5. When We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these circumstances:

  • Public content. Topics, prompts, published answers, and Guide usernames are publicly visible by design. This is core to how the Service works.
  • AI providers. Prompt and chat content is sent to third-party AI model providers as described in Section 4.
  • Analytics providers. Anonymized or pseudonymized usage data is shared with analytics tools as described in Section 6.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Library B, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If Library B is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify users of any such change.

6. Analytics & Cookies

Cookies

The Service uses the following cookies:

  • Session cookie. Required to keep you logged in. Expires when you close your browser or log out. This is a strictly necessary cookie.
  • reCAPTCHA cookies. Used to prevent automated abuse during registration and login. Set by Google.

Analytics

We use the following analytics services to understand how the Service is used:

  • Google Analytics (gtag.js). Collects anonymized page view and event data. Google's privacy policy applies to data they process. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Heap Analytics. Collects interaction data to help us understand usage patterns. Heap's privacy policy applies to data they process.

Both services may set their own cookies. We do not use analytics data to identify individual users by name or contact information.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data. Retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
  • Published content. Topics, prompts, and published answers may be retained after account deletion to preserve the learning resources for students, unless you request deletion.
  • Chat messages. Follow-up chat messages are stored temporarily to maintain conversation context during a session. They are not permanently stored.
  • Server logs. Retained for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes, then deleted.

8. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information via your profile settings.
  • Delete your account and associated personal data.
  • Export your published content (topics and prompts).
  • Object to processing or request restriction of processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address in Section 13. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Users between 13 and 18 may use the Service with parental or guardian consent.

10. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If you become aware of a security vulnerability, please report it to us at the contact address below.

11. International Users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers are located.
